On Saturday, November 25th, 2017 two students from the Hill District of Pittsburgh were hit with stray bullets during a drive-by shooting. They were in 4th grade. Despite the incident they returned to school the following Monday. For many students, schools can be sanctuaries. The block can be hotter than the hallway and homework is not just what we assign.
